About the Claddagh Pendant Symbol:

The Claddagh pendant dates back to the 17th Century in Ireland. It originated in the fishing village of Claddagh, just outside Galway, Ireland. The Claddagh symbol contains hands holding a heart with a crown in most versions. The legend says the hands mean friendship, the heart means love, and the crown means loyalty.

This is a a pendant, but the original Claddagh symbols comes from the ring. According to legend, Algerian Corsairs captured a man named Richard Joyce. They sold him into slavery. Then he learned how to make the ring while working for a goldsmith in captivity.

People use the Claddagh ring for different purposes – as a promise ring, an engagement ring, a wedding ring, or just for decoration. When it is worn to represent a relationship, it can take on different meanings depending on which hand it is worn, and in which direction it points. How someone wears it can be an indicator of relationship status of the wearer. Obviously, the pendant can only be worn one way. Show off your Irish pride with this pendant.
