Meaning of the Mother-Child Knot
The Mother-Child Knot represents either the bond between mother and daughter or mother and son. The top loop of the knot represents the mother. The loop in the center represents the child. The center loop is protected by the rest of the knot.
In addition, this knot is similar to the Triquetra knot, with a few differences. There are a couple extra loops in this one, and there is no extra circle intertwined with it. People often use the Triquetra symbol to represent the bond between mind, body and spirit, among many other things.
In general, Celtic knots represent an eternal bond. This is because like a circle, Celtic Knots have no beginning or end. They often represent complex spiritual relationships.
People often give the Mother-Child Knot as a gift for Mother’s Day. Most often, they often give it to pregnant mothers, or new mothers.
The Mother-Child Knot normally only represents the relationship between a mother and one son, or one daughter. Another symbol of motherhood is the Celtic Motherhood Knot. It can represent the relationship between the mother and many children. Similarly, there is a plain version of the Motherhood Knot, and a version with birthstones.
