The Triquetra is an ancient symbol used to represent the union of three things. It famously appeared on the cover of the King James Bible. In that context, the Triquetra represented the Holy Trinity. Since then it has been used to represent the union of mind, body and spirit. It can also represent anything where three parts make up the whole. Examples are past, present, future and land, sea and air.
The triquetra is perhaps the most famous Celtic Knot. Consequently, it is very popular, and appears in pop culture once in a while. It was famously on the cover of the album Led Zeppelin IV, and the TV series Charmed also used it. It is also popular as a tattoo.
